Public Health and the Built Environment

The Public Health and the Built Environment Workshop is planned for Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 at the Lee Vining Community Center from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Land use, community design and transportation planning have an impact on the health of communities in relation to diseases, obesity, and injuries, as well as quality of life and well being. Spend the day learning how the built environment can positively impact the health of the citizens of Mono County.

- County and Town Planners
- Public Works Staff
- Transportation Engineers
- Non-Profits
- Anyone interested in planning and zoning for healthy communities.
Guest Speakers:
- Paul Zykofsky, A.I.C.P., is Director of Land Use and Transportation programs at the Local Government Commission and manages its Center for Livable Communities. He is a member of the Congress for the New Urbanism, and has co-authored many articles on transit-oriented development and street design.
- Dr. Alex Kelter, M.D. is the former Chief of Epidemiology & Prevention of Injury Control for the California Department of Health Services, where he worked for 24 years and has pioneered prevention efforts in physical activity and nutrition by working with local elected officials and staff on transportiaton planning, housing, and land use decissions.
