"Our Mission is to serve, aid, and protect needy and vulnerable children and adults in ways that strengthen and preserve families, encourage personal responsibility, and foster independence." The Mono County Department of Social Services offers different services to individuals and families through several eligibility based programs. "Eligibility based" means individuals who apply for these programs must qualify by meeting various eligibility requirements as set forth by State and Federal regulations. Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) is a program that assists needy families who meet eligibility requirements with a monthly cash grant, Food Stamps, and Medi-Cal benefits. Along with receiving TANF benefits, those individuals who participate in this program may be required to meet continuing eligibility requirements by participating in our Welfare-to-Work program. Individuals or families may also apply for Food Stamps or Medi-Cal separately to meet their needs. Our department also offers the County Medical Services Program (CMSP) to individuals who meet eligibility requirements. This program provides medical coverage to people who qualify. Another eligibility based program is In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). This program is designed to provide home-making and personal care services to elderly and disabled adults to are at risk of premature out-of-home placement. Bi-lingual workers are available. Satellite services are available in Walker on Monday and Friday. Our Department also provides Child Protective Services as well as Adult Protective Services. We have a 24-hour hotline that is available to report suspected child or adult abuse at: 1-800-340-5411 or 760-932-7755.
