Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Am I registered to vote?

A: You may check your status here: https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/  Please contact our office if you have additional questions about your voter registration.

If you are not currently registered to vote, you may register quickly and easily through the Secretary of State's website at http://registertovote.ca.gov/.   If you do not currently have a California Driver's License or State-issued ID card, you  will have the option to print out the completed form, sign, and send it to us in the mail.

Q: I'm registered to vote, but I never received my Voter Information Guide, Sample Ballot, or Vote-by-Mail Ballot! Why?

A: If this happened to you, there's a good chance we are missing information for you. PLEASE contact our office so we can verify that we have correct and complete information on file.

PLEASE remember, we need BOTH your physical address and your mailing address.  Your physical address allows us to assign you to the proper voting precinct, and your mailing address allows your voting materials to be delivered to you.  We know you probably don't get mail at your home! If we don't have both, either we can't complete your registration, or you won't receive your voter information in the mail, or both.

Q: Where is my polling place?

A: You may look up your polling place here.

Q: I moved since the last time I voted.  Do I need to re-register?

A: Yes.  You are "precincted" according to your physical residence location, which allows voting for candidates that represent your specific area. This is very important, especially if you have moved from one precinct into another.  Re-registering in the proper precinct will save time at the polls and allow you to vote the correct ballot.

Q: Can I vote online?

A: No, California law does not allow voters to cast a ballot over the internet.

Q: What hours are polling place locations open?

A: 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Election Day.

Q: Is my voter information confidential?

A:  Voter registration rolls are not available to the general public.  Voter information may be provided to a candidate for office, a ballot measure committee, or other persons for election, scholarly, journalistic, political, or governmental purposes, as determined by the Secretary of State.  Your driver’s license, social security number, and your signature as shown on your voter registration card will never be released.
