Vector-Borne Disease Section (VBDS)

VBDS protects Californians from illnesses spread by insects and other animals (vectors). The program prevents, tracks, and controls diseases such as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, plague, Lyme disease, West Nile virus, and other tick- and mosquito-borne diseases.

Important

Report dead birds or squirrels to the State of California West Nile Virus Hotline: 1-877-968-2473 (1-877-WNV-BIRD), or online at westnile.ca.gov. For prevention tips, visit fightthebite.net.
