General Assistance
General Assistance (GA)
GA provides cash aid to indigent adults and emancipated minors who are legal residents of Mono County and have no other means of support.
This is a state-mandated program, run and funded locally by Mono County.
Repayment Required
All GA benefits are considered a loan. Recipients must sign a reimbursement agreement to qualify.
Work Requirements
If you are able to work, you may need to participate in employment service activities.
Social Security Requirement
If you are permanently disabled or age 62+, you must apply for Social Security or Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI) through the Social Security Administration.
Property Limits
You may own up to $1,000 in personal property. The cash value of a life insurance policy counts toward this limit.
