Helping Your Baby Grow Healthy and Strong
Here are three key ways to give your baby the best start in life:
1. Keep up with immunizations
2. Breastfeed if you are able
3. Practice safe sleep
1. Immunizations
Vaccines act like training sessions for your baby’s immune system. They teach the body how to recognize and fight harmful germs. While babies are born with some natural protection, they need extra help to prevent dangerous diseases—and that’s where vaccines come in.
2. Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding gives your baby the perfect mix of nutrients for healthy growth and development. It also benefits mothers and communities by reducing illness and promoting bonding.
- Talk with your healthcare provider, WIC staff, family, and friends for support before and after birth.
- Ask for help from a breastfeeding expert if needed.
3. Safe Sleep
Safe sleep means creating a sleep environment that lowers the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related dangers.
- Always place your baby on their back to sleep.
- Use a firm sleep surface.
- Keep soft objects and loose bedding out of the sleep area.
